description
A heavy double shoe is usually made of iron or steel . It's roughly the same shape as a normal shoe, with a heel , tongue and sole , the only difference is the material. It was worked so that it could be worn over a common armor shoe. The heavy double shoe was used to protect the feet during the tournament. During the tournament and the jump-off ( joust ), opponents rode towards each other along a type of wooden fence called a plank . While riding or when riders collided, it often happened that a foot was pressed against this plank. These shoes were developed to protect the foot from this type of injury. However, they did not last long because they were heavy, bulky, and uncomfortable.
