Villigst is a district of the city of Schwerte in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located about two kilometers southeast of the city center of Schwert and south of the Ruhr . Villigst borders Ergste and has around 3500 inhabitants. The place is predominantly characterized by single-family houses and is considered a preferred residential area.

history

The first documentary mention of a castle complex comes from the year 1170. The complex existed until 1819 and had to give way to the classicist building of the noble residence Haus Villigst .

The village of Villigst was first mentioned in 1719. At the beginning of 1946 there were 973 inhabitants. Since 1949, especially in the 1960s, numerous new building areas have been designated and developed.

On January 1, 1975, Villigst was incorporated into the town of Schwerte. Before that, Villigst belonged to the Westhofen office in the Iserlohn district .

In 1987 Villigst had a total of 3318 inhabitants.

Evangelical Studienwerk

In Villigst also has Protestant Academic Foundation is established. The Protestant Academic Foundation is the Begabtenförderungswerk the Evangelical Church in Germany. Every year it supports around 1,400 students and doctoral candidates in all subjects at universities and technical colleges with grants and extensive programs.
