The Sisters of the Holy Family of Villefranche ( French : Soeurs de la Sainte Famille de Villefranche , abbreviation : SF ) are a women's congregation under papal law in the Roman Catholic Church . It was founded in 1816 by St. Émilie de Rodat (1787-1852).

history

In order to promote education and schooling in her parish , Émilie de Rodat founded on May 3, 1816, with the support of the Vicar General of Rodez , a new religious community in Villefranche-de-Rouergue and placed it under the patronage of the Holy Family . The name goes back to the place where it was founded, Villefranche. On August 8, 1832, the Bishop of Rodez , Pierre Giraud , granted the episcopal approval for the establishment of an order and agreed to the rules of the order . The Decretum laudis and the approval of the rules of the order came from the Pope Pius IX on May 25, 1869. The final papal approbation was granted on July 17, 1875, also by Pius IX. In 1944, the final approval of the rules of the order followed, which were revised in 1985.

The main focus is on training, teaching and educating young people. The congregation has around 650 members and is divided into 97 houses. There are offices in France , Belgium , Italy , Great Britain , Spain , Switzerland , Ivory Coast , Egypt , Senegal , Argentina , Bolivia , Brazil and the Philippines . The seat of the General House with the religious superiors is Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
