The Schwienbrücke from the direction of Ricklingen

The Schwienbrücke in Hanover is a prestressed concrete bridge built over the Leine in 1955 , which connects the Hanoverian districts of Südstadt and Ricklingen near the Ricklinger Kiesteiche to the west of the Maschsee and Karl-Thiele-Weg . The building, located in the local recreation and landscape protection area for both pedestrians and cyclists , was named in 1963 after the chief building officer Karl Schwien (1894–1961), who was involved in the planning and construction of the Maschsee as head of the water and bridge construction department of the municipal civil engineering office.
