Science Fiction Book Club (United States)

The Science Fiction Book Club (SFBC) is a US-based on science fiction specialized -Titel Book Club . Established around 1953, the company originally belonged to the Nelson Doubleday publishing house , which was sold to Bertelsmann in 1986 together with Doubleday . From 1989 the title appeared under the imprint GuildAmerica , but then again as Science Fiction Book Club .

The titles produced included original editions, hardcover editions of paperback titles elsewhere, and omnibus editions of novel cycles . Especially up to the point of sale on, SFBC published a relatively large number of original editions by well-known authors.

From 1986 to 1996, the Science Fiction Book Club Award (also SFBC Award ) was given for an outstanding title in the annual production . Prize winners were:

  • 1994: Anne McCaffrey for The Dolphins of Pern
  • 1995: Robert Jordan for Lord of Chaos
  • 1996: Robert Jordan for A Crown of Swords
