The Battalion Burgenland is one of ten militia - battalions of the Austrian Armed Forces . The unit emerged from the disbanded militia battalions 1 and 43 in 2006 and was subordinated directly to the Burgenland military command as part of the 2016 army reform . The Burgenland Jägerbataillon was the first militia unit to be equipped with the new uniform , the "new camouflage suit", in 2019 .

The battalion's mission is defined as follows:
"The range of tasks of the battalion includes security police assistance , securing state sovereignty, disaster relief and the provision of a personnel pool for international deployments of the Austrian Armed Forces."
In order to be able to fulfill this mission, the battalion carries out militia exercises every two years. The construction and operation of checkpoints , tactical behavior in the course of carrying out crowd and riot control measures or patrols with armored vehicles are practiced. The militia battalion works closely with Jägerbataillon 19 from Güssing , which actively participates in the exercise scenarios with combat vehicles such as the Iveco LMV "Husar" or the Pandur armored vehicle .
