The Jägerbataillon Wien 1 "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" of the Austrian Armed Forces is one of the two militia battalions of the federal capital Vienna . The location of the Jäger Battalion Vienna 1, currently under the command of Colonel Stefan Koroknai, is the Maria-Theresien-Kaserne in Vienna-Hietzing . It was set up in 2006 from parts of Jäger Battalions 4 and 6.

In the Austrian Armed Forces of the Second Republic, Feldjäger Battalion 5 continued the 300-year tradition of high and German champions . After the reclassifications in Jägerbataillon 4, Landwehrstammregiment 21, Jägerregiment 2 and Jägerregiment Vienna, the dissolution as an active association took place in 2006.

The Jäger Battalion Vienna 1 emerged from the two Jäger Battalions 4 and 6 of the former Vienna Jäger Regiment.

On July 1, 2006, the decree with reference number S92610 / 3-Org / 2006 came into force, which regulated the formation of the militia battalions. The then Defense Minister Günther Platter entrusted Captain Thomas Mühlegger with the command of the battalion. He was followed in 2007 by Lieutenant Colonel Michael Blaha (then captain). In June 2016, his previous deputy, Colonel Stefan Koroknai, took over the leadership.

The social highlight is the "Deutschmeister-Gala". At this event every year since 2013, more than 300 people have relived the ball feeling of times long past in the splendid ambience of the Army History Museum .

In 2015, the battalion was the first militia association to be nominated for Association of the Year as part of the “Soldier of the Year” and came second.
