Scomberomorus sinensis is a marine predatory fish and the largest species in the genus Scomberomorus . It is important both as a sport fish and in commercial fishing , especially in East Asia.
description
The first dorsal fin consists of 15 to 17 hard rays , the second dorsal fin consists of the same number of soft rays . The anal fin has 16 to 19 soft rays. On the top of the tail stalk there are six to seven, underneath five to seven rafts. The caudal fin is large and deeply split. Special features are the relatively low first dorsal fin and the large, strongly rounded pectoral fins , as well as the very small number of fleas. With a maximum length of 247 cm, Scomberomorus sinensis is the largest Scomberomorus species. The mouth has a slightly elongated lower jaw that is slightly curved at the tip. The sideline initially runs above the middle of the body, but falls clearly below the middle of the body behind the pectoral fins and continues there to the base of the caudal fin. There is no swim bladder .
Distribution, habitat and biology
The range of this fish extends over the west Pacific shelf from Japan to the coast of Cambodia . A distinct feature is the occasional ascent in the Mekong up to about 300 kilometers upstream, i.e. the ability to remain in fresh water for a longer period of time . These migrations are likely to be aimed at getting food. Very little is known about the biology of Scomberomorus sinensis . It is probably a pelagic predatory fish that feeds primarily on smaller fish.
