The distribution area of ​​the subfamily extends from the temperate zones to the tropics. The caterpillars eat moss , lichens , bear moss plants , but also seed plants . This is where the name Mooszünsler comes from for this subfamily.

Systematics

Around 530 species have become known worldwide. The subfamily Scopariinae currently contains seven genera; six genera with 54 species also occur in Europe.
