The white-winged house bat ( Scotoecus albofuscus ) is a bat in the smooth-nosed family that is found in Africa .

features

As the German name suggests, the species is characterized by white wings with brown edges. The fur on the top is a light fawn color and the underside is covered in lighter fur. A specimen from South Africa was 85 mm long with tail, the tail length was 32 mm and the forearms were 31 mm long. The animal had hind feet 8 mm long, ears 9 mm long and a weight of 7.9 g. In individuals who were measured in 1974, the values ​​were lower.

Distribution and way of life

The white-winged house bat is known from West Africa from Senegal to Nigeria and from East Africa from Uganda and Kenya to eastern South Africa. The species was still registered in Sudan . Forests and other landscapes with a vegetation of trees and bushes serve as habitats . Presumably the bat visits dry savannahs .

Very little information is available on lifestyle. During the day the species rests in dense foliage. Because her flight is quick and straight, she is believed to hunt over open landscapes as well as over the treetops.
