Scott Beattie

Scott Beattie (born May 16, 1968 in Kimberley , British Columbia ) is an Italian - Canadian ice hockey coach and former ice hockey player. Most recently he was the head coach of the SCL Tigers in the Swiss National League A (NLA).

Player career

Beattie played in the junior division for the Melville Millionaires before studying and playing at Northern Michigan University between 1989 and 1992 . In 1991 he won the championship with the "Wildcats" in the NCAA Division 1 college league and was named Player of the Year in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association .

He spent his first season as a professional player (1992/93) and the Südtiroler club HC Bolzano in the Serie A . Beattie played for the club several times in the course of his career and won the Italian championship title in 1996 and 1997. With the HC Milano Vipers he won three further championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Beattie also played in Switzerland for the ZSC Lions (97/98) in the National League A (NLA) and in the NLB for HC Thurgau (98/99) and Genève-Servette HC (1999 to 2001). In the 96/97 season he was under contract with the then German first division club Starbulls Rosenheim .

Born in Canada, he was granted Italian citizenship in the course of his career and took part in the 1996 and 2001 World Cups with the Italian national team.

Coaching career

After the end of his playing career, Beattie returned to British Columbia and worked in his hometown from 2005 for three years at the Kimberley Dynamiters (Kootenay International Hockey League) as head coach and manager in personal union. He moved to the Western Hockey League in 2008 and worked as an assistant coach for Kootenay Ice until 2010 and as an assistant coach for the Tri-City Americans between 2010 and 2012 .

With a two-year contract, Beattie took over the post of head coach at EHC Olten in the second Swiss division, National League B (NLB), for the 2012/13 season . In November 2012 - the EHC was at the top of the NLB table at the time - its contract was prematurely extended to 2018. Beattie led the team in its first season in the final of the NLB playoffs, in the following season 14/15 they were at the end of the main round in first place in the table, but were eliminated in the first playoff round. In November 2014 Beattie was given a leave of absence after five defeats in a row in Olten, at the time the team was in sixth place.

On December 28, 2015, EHC Visp (NLB) signed Beattie as head coach, on March 14, 2016, he moved to the SCL Tigers in the National League A , where he signed a contract until the end of the season, which was extended in April 2016 has been. At the beginning of October 2016 he was relieved of his duties as head coach by the SCL after he managed only one win in ten games at the start of the season and the Tigers were in last place in the table.
