The Scottdale String Band was an American string band from Georgia . The Scottdale String Band is one of the lesser-known groups of old-time music , but recorded numerous records between 1927 and 1932.
Career
The Scottdale String Band was named after their hometown of Scottdale, Georgia, a small village near Atlanta . The group first appeared on the Atlanta music scene on October 28, 1926, when they held their first session for OKeh Records . The band's first release followed a short time later with Aunt Hager's Blues / Southern Blues . In January 1927, the Scottdale String Band appeared for the first time in the program of the radio station WSB. Further appearances followed, including in July of the same year. Until 1932 the group was a regular guest at WSB, with a varying cast.
Also by 1932 the Scottdale String Band played a number of records with OKeh and two pieces with Paramount Records . In addition to the traditional Fiddler pieces, called "Breakdowns", such as Down Yonder , the band's repertoire also included jazz compositions : " [Their recorded material] shows a wider range of material including tunes used chiefly by the jazz bands, " noted Bill Rattley in Old magazine Time Music . Other pieces by the group included Carolina Glide , Chinese Breakdown , Scottdale Stomp , Sitting On Top of the World and the Wang Wang Blues .
The band made recordings and radio appearances until 1932; thereafter only other public appearances were made. The Scottdale String Band split around 1940.
