Sdot Jam ( Hebrew שְׂדוֹת יָם Sdōt Jam , alternative spelling Sedot Jam ) is a kibbutz in northern Israel , it is located on the Mediterranean coast northwest of Hadera and had 711 inhabitants in October 2012. The population had increased to 1,055 by 2018.
Sdot Jam was founded in 1940 by members of Israeli youth movements. The main aim was to support the development of industry and illegal Jewish immigration to Palestine before the state was established. The forerunner of the Israeli Navy, the Palyam , was founded in Sdot Jam .
The kibbutz is located immediately south of the extensive excavation sites of ancient Caesarea . An important line of business is tourism, partly due to the nearby excavation sites and the location by the sea.
A famous resident of Sdot Jam was the Hungarian-Jewish resistance fighter Hannah Szenes .
