history

The giant girl, Xolo and the diver leaving the harbor

The piece is based on a story by Jean-Luc Courcoult , one of the founders of Royal de Luxe. The protagonists are a giant girl , her dog Xolo and her uncle (the diver ). The giant girl's father was on board the Titanic when she sank on April 15, 1912. One hundred years later, his brother in a diving suit sets off for the Titanic to retrieve a letter from the wreck for his niece that her father left for her. The three day event began with the diver's ascent from the port of Liverpool and the recovery of the safe containing the said letter. Then the diver went in search of his niece in order to present her the letter. She moved through Liverpool with her dog in search of her uncle, and she and the diver missed each other several times. At the end of the second day, they both met at King's Dock . On the third and final day, after a final tour of the city center, they set sail from the Canning Dock and left the city on the Mersey .

implementation

In addition to the 9-meter-high giant girl, the 15-meter-high diver and the dog Xolo, several other models such as a bed, a car and ships were designed for the piece. While the giant girl and her uncle were mostly constructed from poplar wood , linden wood and steel , Xolo consisted primarily of paper mache and steel. All figures were controlled in their movements by ropes, pulley blocks and motors by a total of 110 helpers, and moved through the city by 20 cranes. At the same time, 24 helpers were needed for the giant girl, 31 for the diver and another 21 for Xolo. The figures were accompanied by musicians on carriages, who provided musical accompaniment to the action.
