The Johanneskirche is a Protestant church in the Pavenstädt district of the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh . The church on Pavenstädter Weg belongs to the West region of the Evangelical Church Community Gütersloh, which belongs to the Gütersloh parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

In 1938 the fifth parish of the Evangelical Church Community of Gütersloh was newly founded. At the beginning of the 1950s, the community commissioned the Gütersloh architect Hans Tödtmann with the planning of a church building with 270 seats and a community hall below, in order to save the cost of an additional roof. The construction costs were estimated at 350,000 marks.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 5, 1953, and the foundation stone of the church was laid on October 10, 1953. The topping-out ceremony took place on November 28, 1953 . On December 5, 1954, the new Evangelical Church West was opened . On February 9, 1967, it was consecrated in the name of Johanneskirche in honor of Evangelist Johannes .

After the completion of the church, the community had a rectory added, which was ready for occupancy in October 1956. In 1963 a kindergarten for 100 children in three groups was built and opened on March 8, 1964. In 1989 considerable renovation work took place, combined with extensions: the church and community hall were given a common entrance. The renovated church was consecrated on December 3, 1989. In 2000 was Lukas hall because the Protestant community of the church of St. Luke community had to the Syrian Orthodox issued and more space was needed at the Johannes Church. Since 2011, the day-care center has offered U3 care for now 60 children between the ages of two and starting school. Exercise and language promotion as well as the integration of children with different needs are among the conceptual focuses.

Furnishing

The equipment of the Johanneskirche includes an organ built in 1958 by the Hammer company . It has 13 stops on two manuals and pedal , mechanical action and registration .

A glass window in the chancel was designed by Woldemar Winkler . It shows the symbol of the church patron Evangelist John : an eagle holds a book in its claws and thus points to the beginning of John's Gospel : “ In the beginning was the word. "

The 240 kg bell is tuned in c sharp and was made by the Rincker bell and art foundry . Pavenstadt farmers, who had taken over the majority of the costs for the bell, wanted the inscription Matthew 4, 4: "Man does not live from bread alone, but from every word that comes out of the mouth of God."
