Christ König is a Catholic parish church in Gütersloh, East Westphalia, in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . The church in the Nordhorn district belongs to the Gütersloh-Nordring pastoral network in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
history
Originally the believers in the community belonged to the St. Pankratius community in Gütersloh. After the Second World War, many expellees came from East Germany and settled in Gütersloh. The way to the Pankratiuskirche took about 50 minutes. Therefore around 120 people met on March 7, 1950 and thought about building a new church. They founded a church building association and committed themselves to the patronage of Christ König. In the first quarter of the year, the church building association was able to raise 13,000 marks in donations. The neighboring company Miele donated the property, which is why the church in Gütersloh is also known colloquially as the Miele church.
After an architectural competition, the designs were presented on July 9, 1950. They voted in favor of the design by architect Bocklage from Rietberg . The groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 23, 1951 and the foundation stone was laid on May 17, 1951 . The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on September 20, 1951 thanks to a high level of personal contribution. Up to September 15, 1951, 9,489 wage hours and 5,000 hours of personal contribution had been worked on the construction site.
On April 14, 1952 Easter Monday, the 400 guests, the Church by Archbishop was Lorenz Jaeger ordained . On May 1, 1952, the first vicar was introduced to the parish.
On April 13, 1953, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated for the rectory, which was occupied in the summer of that year. On March 1, 1955, the community was raised to an independent parish vicarie. Four bells were consecrated on April 24th of that year. On September 9, 1956 it was decided to buy an organ from the Speith-Orgelbau company in Rietberg for DM 40,400. It was built on September 10, 1957 and consecrated on October 25, 1957.
On December 1, 1959, the Vicarie was raised to an independent parish. The former vicar was introduced as pastor on January 24, 1960.
On September 28, 1967, construction began on the parish hall, which was inaugurated on June 23, 1968.
When the church began to crack, it was renovated on April 19, 1980. The masses took place in the parish hall. The work lasted until February 1, 1981.
On January 1st, 2000 the pastoral association Gütersloh-Nordring was established, to which the congregation Christ König together with the congregation Holy Family and its subsidiary church Maria Königin were assigned.
In 2014 the church was renovated for around 600,000 euros. 30% of the costs are borne by the municipality, the rest by the Archdiocese of Paderborn. Among other things, the floors were replaced, the church interior received better sound, a lockable iron grille was installed between the vestibule and nave to protect against vandalism, the organ was renovated, i.e. H. all 2,118 pipes removed, cleaned, re-soldered and tuned, and a light station that can suck out the soot produced by candle flames was installed.
