Sean Matthew Gregan (born March 29, 1974 in Guisborough , England ) is an English football player . He currently plays for third division Oldham Athletic .

Club career

Sean Gregan played for Darlington FC in his youth . For five years he ran for the "Quakers" in the third and fourth English leagues before he was committed in 1996 for 350,000 pounds by Preston North End . For Preston, Gregan played over 250 league games in six years and was voted club-internal player of the year twice. During this time the fans simply called him God because of his uncompromising defense work and the high influence he exerted on his teammates . In August 2002, the Englishman moved to West Bromwich Albion , who had previously been promoted to the Premier League , for £ 2 million . Some football experts, such as Rodney Marsh , were not convinced of the defensive player's qualities and therefore criticized the move. However, Gregan established himself contrary to these critical opinions to the regular player in the defense of West Bromwich. Nevertheless, the club rose at the end of the season and immediately rose again in the following season.

After the promotion season he was signed by then Leeds United coach Kevin Blackwell . At Leeds, Gregan had to break away from his traditional defensive role and repeatedly take on other tasks and positions in the game. Due to this fact and also due to the good performance of other defensive players, he was rarely used in the 2006/07 season. This was followed by a two-month loan deal with Oldham Athletic , which expired in January 2007. Gregan, however, was satisfied with Oldham and a short time later signed a contract until June 30, 2009. At the end of the 2008/09 season, coach Dave Penney, who was hired in the spring, regarded him as an excess player who no longer met the requirements due to his age could be fair. A little while later, however, Penney changed his mind and Sean Gregan signed another one-year contract for the following season.
