Kevin Patrick Blackwell (born December 21, 1958 in Luton ) is a former English football player and current coach . Most recently he coached the English fourth division club FC Bury .
Player career
Kevin Blackwell played at Cambridge United in his youth . There he did not make the breakthrough and moved to the amateur club Bedford Town. He also worked as a bricklayer. Blackwell played for Barton Rovers, Middlesex Wanderers and Barnet FC until 1980. He then played for Boston United for six years . In the 1985 FA Trophy final he saved a penalty, but his team lost 2-1 to Wealdstone FC. Another short interlude at Barnet followed before the goalkeeper was brought to Scarborough FC by Neil Warnock in 1986 . In 1989 Warnock went to Notts County and Blackwell followed shortly afterwards. There he did not appear in a single league in four years. In 1993 his coach went to Torquay United and Blackwell followed him one more time. After 18 games, the goalkeeper moved to Huddersfield Town , again after coach Warnock had taken over the coaching office there shortly before. And also at the last stop between 1995 and 1997 both went to Plymouth Argyle together . After 24 league games for the club, Blackwell ended his active career at the age of 38.
Coaching career
In 1998, Kevin Blackwell moved back to his long-time coach Neil Warnock, who was now with Bury FC . Blackwell took over the office of goalkeeping coach there. In 2004 he took over the coaching position at Leeds United . In his first season, he set the record for the club's most transfers in one season. After only seven points from eight games and the associated penultimate place in the table, Blackwell's contract was dissolved. Six months later he was introduced as the new Luton Town coach . After the club filed for bankruptcy at the end of the year, Blackwell announced that he would leave the club. Before he could do this himself, however, he was fired by the club's management. From February 14, 2008 he coached the second division club Sheffield United as the successor to Bryan Robson . He held this office until shortly after the start of the 2010/11 season.
On September 26, 2012, he took over the coaching post at the bottom of the third division FC Bury . At the end of the season Blackwell rose with his team in the fourth division. After a false start in Football League Two , he was released on October 14, 2013.
