Sebald Pögl the Elder

Sebald Pögl the Elder (* around 1460 , † around 1510 ) was a Styrian arms manufacturer.

After the death of his father, the tradesman Peter Pögl († around 1486), Sebald Pögl inherited the hammer mill in Thörl and expanded the craft business into an early industrial operation in which guns, small arms, cannon balls and other military equipment were manufactured. He becomes King Maximilian I's most important arms supplier . The consideration for the delivery to the sovereign consisted not only of money in the form of cash or credit, but also of the granting of privileges in the iron trade , which further strengthened Pögl's market position. In 1505 Pögl was raised to the nobility . His coat of arms shows a camel growing out of a crown.

He was married to Beatrix von Liechtenstein auf Murau, a member of one of the highest Styrian noble families. The marriage had three children:
