Sebastian Erlacher (* 1609 , † 18th August 1649 ) was an Austrian sculptor of the Baroque .
Life
Erlacher came from Tegernsee in Bavaria . From October 23, 1633 until his death he was with Anna Maria Erlacher, b. Khrätschmair (before 1618–17 May 1677) married, the mother of the architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach (1656–1723). Bernhard Fischer von Erlach's father, Johann Baptist Fischer , was an apprentice in Sebastian Erlacher's workshop in Graz , who also married his widow in 1650.
Erlacher's epitaph is located in the nave of the parish church in Graz . The memorial comes from his successor Johann Baptist Fischer. It consists of a marble inscription tablet, relief putti with vanity symbols and a frame with auricle and cartilage.
The three larger than life sandstone figures on the gable above the main entrance of the Graz mausoleum are attributed to Sebastian Erlacher. The two side altars (approx. 1648) in the parish church of Nestelbach near Graz are from him or from his workshop; they were transferred from the parish church of St. Peter to Nestelbach in the Graz area.
