description

architecture

A gable tower stands on the eastern front of the church . Furthermore, this side has inward swinging side parts divided by giant pilasters . On both sides of the decoratively framed entrance portal, a small niche is set into the outer wall and decorated with late baroque statues of St. Florian and St. John Nepomuk .

The retracted, one-yoke choir has a semicircle . Between the choir and the narrower entrance yoke there is an expansive, square central yoke that cannot be seen from the outside. This spans a square vault with a divider arch sitting on pillars . Two galleries , one above the other and swinging forward into the room, are inserted above the entrance yoke .

On the outside of the choir is a Marian monogram by Adolf Osterider .

Interior

The pulpit was made in 1764 by Veit Königer for the Clarissin Church in Graz. There is an inscription on the basket that identifies Archduchess Maria of Austria as the donor of the work of art. The high altar dates from the first third of the 18th century. His figure decorations and the tabernacle were renewed in 1913. On the left there is a larger than life figure of St. Klemens Maria Hofbauer and on the right one of St. Notburga von Rattenberg , both from Peter Neuböck .

The two side altars originally come from the parish church of St. Peter in Graz . The right altar was erected in 1648 and is attributed to Sebastian Erlacher . The neo-Gothic figures on it date from the late 19th century.

The choir and the ship's yoke are decorated with vault paintings, which were painted in 1934 by Franz Mikschowsky based on designs by Ludwig von Kurz zum Thurn and Goldenstein . They show God the Father, Christ with intercessors, the four evangelists and the church fathers . Furthermore, on the outside of the choir, a larger-than-life fresco depicts St. Christopher . The fresco has not existed for several years. In its place there is currently a picture of Adolf Osterider on the facade of the choir, showing the monogram of Mary.

In the church there are also statues of St. Barbara and the Mater Dolorosa from around 1720 to 1730, which are attributed to the artist Johann Jacob Schoy . A larger than life, late Gothic crucifix from around 1520 hangs on the southern wall, which used to be attached to the outside wall of the church and was discovered by chance by the former pastor Friedrich Tieber.

In the vestibule is a covered statue of the Virgin Mary from the 18th century, which was brought from Graz-St. Leonhard was brought to Nestelbach. A total of 244 miracles were ascribed to this figure between 1745 and 1782, which are recorded in a miracle book. The church stalls date from the time the church was built and some of the stained glass windows were used in 1904 and 1911. The old organ was built in 1909 by Konrad Hopferwieser senior and has since been replaced by a new, digital organ.
