Sebastian Kirchberger (born February 24, 1846 in Tegernsee ; † May 16, 1919 in Munich ) was a German Catholic clergyman, cathedral chapter in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Live and act

Sebastian Kirchberger was the son of the glazier Georg Kirchberger and his wife Maria geb. Core.

He attended primary school in Tegernsee, then grammar school and finally the Georgianum in Munich. In 1865 he became a member of the KDStV Aenania Munich in the CV . On June 29, 1871 he was ordained a priest and later became inspector of the royal educational institution in the north wing of Nymphenburg Palace , from which today's Maria-Ward grammar school emerged.

In 1890, Kirchberger was appointed Cathedral Capitular in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria . In this office he also acted as the central president of all Bavarian journeyman's associations .

In 1903 the canon, together with Major General Heinrich Himmel von Agisburg (1843–1915), founded the Bavarian Pilgrims Association of the Holy Land in Munich , became its chairman for many years and personally led three large Bavarian popular pilgrimages to Palestine, each with over 500 pilgrims (1904, 1908 and 1914).

Sebastian Kirchberger was holder of the Order of Merit of St. Michael IV Class, the Luitpold Cross, the Papal Order Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice , the Jerusalem Pilgrim Cross and the Commander's Cross with Star of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . He also held the dignity of a papal house prelate and an honorary archimandrite of the Melkite Catholic Cathedral of Baalbek .

Sebastian Kirchberger died on May 16, 1919 in Munich after a long and serious illness.
