Sebastian Mitterer

Sebastian Mitterer (* 1942 ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2003 to January 2006 he was regional councilor in the Tyrolean state government van Staa II .

Born in Wörgler Mitterer, he studied economics in Innsbruck ( diploma in economics ) and business education in Vienna ( master’s degree ). Furthermore, he passed the teaching examination. Mitterer taught from 1968 and rose to head of the municipal commercial school in Wörgl in 1970 . In 1976 he became director of the Bundeshandelsakademie Wörgl, which he headed until 1999.

Mitterer has been a member of the ÖAAB since 1973 and was elected district chairman of Kufstein in 1991. He held this office until 2001. From 1974 he represented the ÖVP in the municipal council of Wörgl and was city councilor there for ten years. Between 1986 and 1994 he worked in the city as 1st deputy mayor.

From 1994 to 1999 Mitterer represented the ÖVP in the Tyrolean state parliament and was sports and traffic spokesman there. In 1999 Mitterer was appointed acting president of the state school board for Tyrol. In 2003 Mitterer took over the office of the State Councilor for Education and Generations, whereby his portfolio included the agendas of compulsory schools, university affairs, technical colleges, youth protection as well as youth, family and senior citizens policy. During his tenure, he campaigned for improved educational standards, the expansion of afternoon programs, an improved range of remedial classes and the preservation of small Tyrolean schools. After Ferdinand Eberle's resignation from the state government, a major government reshuffle also led to Mitterer's departure from the state government. According to him, the 63-year-old regional councilor left the government voluntarily, but did not want to comment on whether the decision also included gentle pressure from Governor Herwig van Staa . After a brief transition phase, Mitterer also resigned from his position as the incumbent state school board president.

Sebastian Mitterer was a ski racer and trainer at SC Wörgl and as a footballer at SV Wörgl .
