Sebastian Schmitt (born February 29, 1996 in Rosenheim ) is a German basketball player . The 1.84-meter point guard heard since summer 2018 to the second division squads USC Heidelberg .

Player career

Schmitt played for the DJK Rosenheim sports association in his hometown and was also entitled to play for FC Bayern Munich from the age of 14 thanks to a double license . From the 2010/11 season he was part of Bavaria's U16 team in the youth basketball league (JBBL). In 2012 he became German U16 runner-up with FCB and moved up to the next season in Munich's U19 team in the highest German youth division, the youth basketball league (NBBL). In the 2012/13 season Schmitt also played for the men's team of his home club SB DJK Rosenheim in the 2nd regional league, from 2013 he gained experience in men's basketball in Bayern Munich's second men's team in the 1st regional league South-East.

In July 2015, Schmitt signed a professional contract with FC Bayern. In the 2015/16 season he made two short appearances for Bayern's team in the basketball league , but mostly played in the club's reserve, with which he won the championship title in the 1st Regionalliga Süd-Ost.

Schmitt then moved north, he was announced as a new addition by Munich's Bundesliga competitor Eisbären Bremerhaven in September 2016 . He received a double license, which also allowed him to work for the polar bears cooperation club, the regional league club Rot-Weiß Cuxhaven. With Cuxhaven he won the championship title in the 1st Regionalliga Nord, and in 19 Bundesliga games he wore the polar bear shirt. In the summer of 2017 he was signed by the Ehingen / Urspring syndicate from the 2nd Bundesliga ProA . With Ehingen he missed relegation in the second division in the 2017/18 season. In the course of the season Schmitt was used in 30 games and scored an average of 5.8 points and gave 4.1 basket assists per match. Because of Cologne's withdrawal, Ehingen ultimately stayed in the league. At the beginning of June 2018, Schmitt was signed by another second division club, USC Heidelberg .

National team

Schmitt took part in the U16 European Championship in 2012 with the selected teams of the German Basketball Federation and won gold at the B-EM in 2014 with the U18. In January 2016 he was appointed to the U20 national team. In the summer of 2017 Schmitt was appointed to the German men's national team in the basketball variant "3 against 3" and represented his country in this form of play also in later years at the international level.
