Sebastian von Diesbach (born February 16, 1481 in Bern , † October 20, 1537 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was mayor of the city ​​of Bern .

Sebastian von Diesbach was the son of Ludwig von Diesbach and Antonia von Ringoltingen . He married Dorothea von Hallwyl († 1517) in 1509 and Louise Mestral around 1518. After studying in Paris, he did military service and, on his return to Bern in 1504, joined the Grand Council.

As a lieutenant in the Bernese troops, he took part in the Battle of Novara in 1513 . As a French colonel, he later served in Picardy and in 1522 took part in the service of Milan at the Battle of Bicocca .

Diesbach was elected to the Small Council in 1514, in 1515 he became mayor of Burgdorf , in 1518 he became a burger secretary, and from 1519 he was again in the Small Council. In the same year he traveled as a mediator to Freiburg and to the Duke of Savoy , in 1521 as envoy to the federal evocation with King Francis I to Paris. In 1525 he became a secretary from the council. In 1529 he was elected mayor of Bern. In the two Kappel Wars he led the Bernese troops against the five Catholic towns, but was critical of the Reformation. In 1533 he was passed over in the mayor election and in 1534 removed from office because of an unresolved trade in bribery. He then gave up the Bernese citizenship law and moved to his brother Rochus von Diesbach in Freiburg in Üechtland.

Sebastian von Diesbach temporarily owned the Löwenberg estate near Murten .
