Johann von Erlach (* 1474 in Bern ; † 1539 ) was mayor of the city ​​of Bern .

The noble Johann von Erlach married the likewise noble Magdalena von Mülinen in 1500 . He was the master of Hindelbank , Jegenstorf , Riggisberg and Spiez . Erlach sat from 1501 in the Grand Council , 1506 was proconsul of Grandson , 1508 a member of the Small Council , and from 1519 to 1539 Schultheiss Berne . In 1511 he was the Bernese envoy to Neuchâtel , in 1512 to Geneva to the Duke of Savoy , Charles III. and to Venice to Pope Julius II. He took part in the train to Dijon in 1513 and to Milan in 1515 and was Commander-in-Chief in the Oberland Reformation riots and captain in the First and Second Kappel Wars in 1528 .

1517–1518, shortly before the Reformation, he had a new church built in Hindelbank . Among the valuable picture windows, which were destroyed in a fire in 1911, there was also a picture of the donor , which shows the builder of the church kneeling in knight armor (before Christ, who was depicted opposite), presented by his namesake Johannes .
