List of the mayors of Burgdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Burgdorf Castle, seat of the Burgdorfer Schultheissen

The mayors of the city of Burgdorf in the canton of Bern were appointed by the Counts of Kyburg , who resided at Burgdorf Castle. Most of them were representatives from ministerial families . With the purchase of the city of Burgdorf in 1384 from the impoverished Grafenhaus by the city and republic of Bern , the new city lords also took over the right to use the mayor. After the count's house died out and the sovereignty passed to Bern, the mayor resided in Burgdorf Castle and, in addition to the city, administered the associated office, which, like numerous Bernese regional bailiffs, became an area of immediate rule.
