Secondhand Serenade is a music project by artist John Vesely, who founded the project in 2004 in Menlo Park , California .

history

Vesely began his musical career as a bassist in various bands from the fields of ska , rock and hardcore . It was only in 2004 that he left this path and from then on occupied himself with writing his own songs, which he accompanied with an acoustic guitar .

In the summer of 2005 he recorded his first album " Awake ". Vesely paid the full costs for the eight-day studio stay himself. The artist name, which was only created after the recordings were completed, was deliberately chosen so that it suggests a multi-member band rather than a singer / composer. This was to avoid the typical image of a solo artist in order to emphasize the versatility of the project.

Secondhand Serenade became famous in 2006 through the MySpace website , on which Vesely offered his songs for auditioning. With this he reached number 1 in the MySpace charts for bands without a permanent label after just a few months . In addition, he offered his album for sale in the online music store iTunes , with which he also entered the Top 100 charts.

Due to its continued success in online platforms, Vesely signed a contract with the newly founded music label Glassnote Records at the end of 2006.

As a result, two more songs were created in early 2007, with which the album "Awake" was officially released as a CD in the USA on February 6th. In addition, a music video was created for the song " Vulnerable ", which was shot and directed by Frank Borin (known as a director of other artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers or Eminem ).

In mid-2007, the recordings for the follow-up album " A Twist In My Story ", which was released in February 2008, began. For the first time, Vesely did not play all of his songs himself, but let a band support him with the recordings.

In August 2010 the third studio album " Hear Me Now " was released.

At the beginning of 2012, Vesely announced that it had parted ways with Glassnote. He justified this with the plan to want to concentrate on music without being guided by "industrial policy, expectations and pressure". With the support of donations, the album " A Naked Twist In My Story " was finally released in September . This includes all the tracks from “ A Twist In My Story ”, which have now been recorded acoustically or with orchestral support. Vesely also announced the release of another studio album for 2012.
