Seder Tannaim we-Amoraim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seder Tannaim we-Amoraim ( Hebrew for the order of the Tannaites and Amorae , abbreviated to STA) is a writing by an unknown author that was created towards the end of the 9th century and represents the first known attempt at a Talmudic methodology.

It analyzes the relationship between the Mishnah and Baraita and the Tannaite Midrashim and contains a list of the patriarchs from Hillel and an enumeration of the rabbinic teachers up to the end of the Saborean period . The list ends with the year 884, which is why it has been assumed that the font was written 884. The most complete text, on which the critical edition of Kahane is based, has come down to us in the Machsor Vitry .
