The Seefelder Jochbahn is an aerial cableway ( aerial cableway ) in Seefeld in the Austrian state of Tyrol which was demolished after around 60 years in service in March and April 2018 and rebuilt in the same year.

It leads from the Rosshütte ( 1763  m above sea level ), to which a funicular takes you from Seefeld, to the Seefelder Joch ( 2060  m above sea level ). The facility is owned by Bergbahnen Rosshütte Seefeld-Tirol-Reith AG in Seefeld in Tirol.

Surname

The name of the cable car is derived from the Seefelder Joch, on the top of which the cable car leads. In the Karwendel, yoke often does not mean a notch , but a mountain peak .

history

The first cable car system at this point was built in 1957/1958 according to the plans of the cable car designer Karl Peter . A fully automatic cable car without a carriage attendant was set up at this facility after Karl Peter had previously set up a demonstration and test facility in Batschuns and had demonstrated the operational safety of the Lech – Oberlech cable car in practical tests. The cable car opened on June 26, 1958.

In 1981/1982 the Seefelder Jochbahn was converted. The new cabins also had a capacity of 12 people.

In 2012, the cable car with 14 passengers was temporarily out of service because one of the suspension cable brakes had fallen. Nobody got hurt.

Technical specifications

New plant (2018)

The new system of the Seefelder Jochbahn uses the station buildings of the old system with movable platforms. The plant was granted an operating license on December 5, 2018 without any further conditions. The manufacturer of the cable car system was the company Ludwig Steurer Maschinen und Seilbahnbau from Doren in Vorarlberg.

  • Operating length ( inclined length ): 849 m
  • Driving equipment (cabins): 2
  • Vehicle equipment capacity: 25 people

The new system was more than 1 million euros more expensive than planned.

Old plant

The cable car system could transport twelve people per cabin. A comprehensive renovation of the Seefelder Jochbahn has been under discussion for a long time. For years, the transport capacity has been considered insufficient to meet the number of passengers. By converting the system by around four million euros, the overall capacity of the system's conveying capacity is to be increased compared to the current system.
