Seekirche (Seefeld)
The Seekirche Heiliges Kreuz , here Seekirchl or Heiligkreuzkirche , is a landmark near Seefeld in Tyrol , on the outskirts of the Kirchwald district .
History and construction
The church serves as the votive church of a miraculous crucifix . Archduke Leopold V initiated the construction of a church in 1629, and it was completed in 1666. At that time, the Seekirchl stood in the middle of the Kreuzsee , which was laid out by Duke Sigmund the Rich in Coin in the 15th century and drained in 1808. The Seekirchl soon became an important pilgrimage church , next to the parish church the second in Seefeld.
It is a high baroque , octagonal central building with a dome, a design rare in Tyrol, with an attached tower. The master builder was the Innsbruck court builder Christoph Gumpp the Younger , the painting - two high altar paintings (1771), two wall paintings on the legend of the Seefeld Cross (around 1772) - were done by Josef Anton Puellacher . The wrought iron grating of the chancel in cartilage style was built in 1978 - "somewhat unsuitable" - under the gallery.
The church is a listed building .
