The airfield Büren is a Segelfluggelände at which predominantly winch and aerotow start of gliders are performed. The airfield is approved for gliders, motor gliders , powered aircraft , microlight aircraft and model aircraft and has a grass runway around 1000 m long. It can be found on Schwalenberg between Büren and Keddinghausen , about two kilometers from the city center of the East Westphalian city ​​in the Paderborn district.

history

The history of the airfield began in 1968 with the first take-off of a glider. In the same year a hangar was built there, and the Aero Club Lippstadt has also been flying in Büren since 1976. He previously flew in Oerlinghausen , but moved to Büren in the mid-1970s and built his own hangar there. In 1982 the youth group of the Aero-Club Büren was awarded the “Jumbo Baumann Prize” in gold for the best youth work in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). In 1989, the then largest air sports youth meeting in North Rhine-Westphalia took place on the glider airfield in Büren. A world premiere was achieved in 1993: After a five-year construction period, Konrad Reichelt experienced the “rollout” for his “ Drake ”, the world's first duck wing motor glider. The Aero Club Büren eV, which operates the airfield, has been awarded the “ Blue Flag ” of the German Society for Environmental Education e. V. has been awarded. In 2005 the airfield received the status change to a special airfield. In 2008 the air sports youth meeting NRW took place in Büren for the second time. On the same days, AC Büren celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Clubs at the glider airfield

The Aero-Club Büren e. V. and the Aero Club Lippstadt e. V. is at home. Both clubs are active in youth work.
