The Fischbek glider airfield is a glider airfield on the south-western outskirts of Hamburg .
Location and space
The glider airfield in Hamburg's Neugraben-Fischbek district is part of the Fischbeker Heide nature reserve .
There are three runways available, two of which consist of grass runways and one of gravel. Winch towing is used on the 900 m long southern runway . Between the parallel slopes, which are unusually narrow with a width of 4–5 m, there are heather areas that are not allowed to be entered for nature conservation reasons.
History and operating association
- In 1910, flight pioneer Gottlieb Rost carried out the first flight attempts on the site.
- Since 1925 the place has been used by clubs for gliding.
- In 1950, the predecessors of the club, which was merged to form the Segelflug-Club Fischbek eV in 1964, were founded and still operates the place today.
