The Fischbek glider airfield is a glider airfield on the south-western outskirts of Hamburg .

Location and space

The glider airfield in Hamburg's Neugraben-Fischbek district is part of the Fischbeker Heide nature reserve .

There are three runways available, two of which consist of grass runways and one of gravel. Winch towing is used on the 900 m long southern runway . Between the parallel slopes, which are unusually narrow with a width of 4–5 m, there are heather areas that are not allowed to be entered for nature conservation reasons.

History and operating association

first flight attempts by aviation pioneer Gottlieb Rost
  • In 1910, flight pioneer Gottlieb Rost carried out the first flight attempts on the site.
  • Since 1925 the place has been used by clubs for gliding.
  • In 1950, the predecessors of the club, which was merged to form the Segelflug-Club Fischbek eV in 1964, were founded and still operates the place today.
