The Riedelbach airfield is a glider airfield on the Riedelbacher Heide in the municipality of Weilrod near the district of Riedelbach im Taunus ( Eastern Hintertaunus ). It is located around nine kilometers north of the Großer Feldberg . The Riedelbach sports flying club has been based on the site since 1967.

terrain

The runway of the glider airfield has a length of 1000 m with an alignment of 06/24 as well as a south square. On the grass runway, both a release height from the winch and towing with the motor glider are possible. Due to the mountain location of the flight site, the water flows off the runway, which often allows an early start to the season.

Flight operations

Flight operations at the airfield mainly take place on weekends and public holidays. The main operations are glider take-offs on the winch. Although school starts make up the largest proportion, they are often cross-country flights across Germany. Occasionally it is also about aerobatics. In terms of the total number of take-offs and landings at the airfield, motor glider flights are the exception, although aircraft tows are occasionally used for take-offs.
