The Schnuckenheide-Repke glider airfield , which was operated from 1954 to 2015, was located in the Lüneburg Heath near the village of Repke in the Gifhorn district . It was also named after the neighboring Schnuckenheide . Due to the sandy heather soil, there were good thermal conditions.

The glider airfield had a 1000 m long grass runway for gliders , motor gliders and towing machines .

The place was operated by the Luftsportvereinigung Altkreis Isenhagen eV, founded in 1953. In March 2015, it became known that the lease was terminated at the end of the year.

Incidents

On August 3, 2015, an incident occurred in which a pilot from Esslingen am Neckar was seriously injured. He was on the landing approach with his glider after a training flight when the airplane crashed uncontrollably from 10 meters. The pilot was then taken to the Hannover Medical School by rescue helicopter and a representative from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation began the investigation.
