Sehirus luctuosus is a bug from the family of earth bugs (Cydnidae).
features
The bugs are 6.2 to 8.3 millimeters long. They are completely black in color and only sometimes have a bronze sheen. Your second antennae ( pedicellus ) is much paler than the rest.
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed from Europe to Central Asia. In Central Europe it is widespread and not uncommon. You can find them in the Alps on sunny slopes up to almost 2000 meters above sea level. Dry and warm, open habitats are settled, preferably on sandy soils and not infrequently in ruderal areas . In the UK it is widespread in the south but only occurs locally. You can find them there mainly on light chalk floors in open and temperature-favored areas.
Way of life
The animals live in Raublattgewächsen (Boraginaceae), such as snake heads ( echium ), forget-me-not ( Myosotis ) or violets ( Anchusa ). Both adult animals and nymphs have also been found under the rosettes of mullein ( Verbascum ) and on horn herbs ( Cerastium ). Mating takes place in late April and May. During this time the adults can be found flying and running on many different types of plants. In May the females can also be found guarding their eggs. The nymphs are found on the ground under the food plants; rarely on the plants when sucking on the ripening seeds. The nymphs appear mainly in June and July, the adult animals of the new generation from the end of July or August. One generation is trained every year.
