In 1965 he invented a system to make the life of his blind friend easier and invested his own money in guidance systems for the blind. Two years later, on March 18, 1967, a school for the blind in Okayama was equipped with this system.

Since then, guidance systems for the blind have established themselves around the world and are mainly to be found at train stations , bus and tram stops and at intersections .

Raised knobs indicate special places (e.g. road, railroad crossing or bus boarding), grooves indicate directions or indicate boundaries.

Awards

On March 18, 2019, Google Doodle honored him by replacing the search engine logo with a guide system for the blind with a yellow background, whereby some knobs were highlighted in color to make the Google lettering visible.
