Seiko Matsuda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seiko Matsuda ( Japanese 松田 聖 子 , Matsuda Seiko , actually Noriko Kamachi ( 蒲 池 法子 ); born March 10, 1962 in Kurume ) is a Japanese singer-songwriter .

Life

In 1980 she had her breakthrough with the song Hadashi no Kisetsu . In the same year, Kaze wa Aki-iro became her first of a total of 24 consecutive number-one hits in Japan. In 1990 Seiko Matsuda tried to gain a foothold in America and Europe with her English-language album Seiko . The single The Right Combination , a duet with Donnie Wahlberg , a member of the New Kids on the Block , was a hit in both Europe and the USA. The second single from this album Was It the Future, however, flopped, and the album itself only sold mediocre. In 1996 she released the ballad I'll Be There For You, a duet with Robbie Nevil .

In addition to her singing career, Matsuda also appears regularly on Japanese and American television (for example in the series King of the Hill ) and played a few minor roles in movies, such as Mercilessly Beautiful or Armageddon . In 2010 she took on a guest role in an episode of the American series Bones .

Seiko Matsuda was married to actor Masaki Kanda from 1985 to 1997 and from this marriage has a daughter who is also active in the music business under the name Sayaka .
