Being and having (French original title Être et avoir ) is an award-winning French documentary from 2002 about a French village school in Saint-Étienne-sur-Usson in Auvergne . The film was presented at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2002 and was released in French cinemas on August 28, 2002.

The film takes place in a village school in Auvergne, where all children are taught in one class until the end of primary school. Georges Lopez is the only teacher in a class who has to respond to the individual developments of his children and who is almost entirely responsible for bringing up the children.
