Sellen is a farming community in the Burgsteinfurt district of the city of Steinfurt in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1939 Sellen was an independent municipality .

Sellen is an agricultural scattered settlement without a dense village center and is located northwest of the Burgsteinfurt core city. The Steinfurter Aa forms the natural border to the Hollich farming community to the east . The Veltrup farmers join to the south . The Seller Feld nature reserve is located in the northern part of Sellen . The former municipality of Sellen had an area of ​​22.0 km².

history

Sellen is an old Westphalian peasantry . The peasantry was first mentioned in 890 as "Seliun" in the land registers of the Werden monastery . In the course of time, several main courtyards were established in the peasantry, around which individual settlements emerged. Since the 19th century formed Sellen, a rural community in the Office Steinfurt of Steinfurt . The community received its own elementary school in 1877. On April 1, 1939, Sellen was incorporated into what was then Burgsteinfurt, together with the neighboring farmers of Hollich and Veltrup.
