Culture and sights

Mill

Hollicher mill

In 1859 the miller Elshorst from Ahaus and the economist Börger from Weseke in Hollicher Esch built a gallery Dutch with sails and codend on a solid octagon. With the help of a support association, the mill, which was threatened with decay, was restored from 1985 and opened to the public on September 24, 1988. Since then, the Hollicher Mühle has been open to visitors every Saturday afternoon in summer.

Hollicher shooting society

The Hollicher Schützengesellschaft, which has been based in Hollich since 1490, plays a major role. With 850 members, it is one of the largest shooting clubs in Germany. The Hollicher Schützenfest takes place once a year at the Hollicher Landwehr. The association organizes many festivals each year, such as B. Carnival, the Schützenfest or Buxenbeer, a festival a week after Carnival and probably the most popular event in Hollich. In May 2015, the Hollicher Schützengesellschaft celebrated a jubilee shooting festival to mark its 525th anniversary, in which at times 4000 people took part at the same time.

Transport and infrastructure

railroad

There was a depot with a crossing or passing track that was named Hollich. It was on the Coesfeld - Rheine route (part of the Duisburg - Quakenbrück connection) - but it was never used for tourist traffic. Passenger traffic ceased in 1984 and the signal box was demolished at the end of the 1980s. In 2008, this former section of the railway was converted into a cycle path.

energy

The Hollich wind farm of the same name with a capacity of 77.5 MW and 35 wind turbines is located in the district.
