The seminar SV Thorn was a German sports club from the West Prussian town of Thorn (today Thoruń ). The football department once took part in the Baltic football finals.

history

After the club was founded in 1909 under the name Seminar FC 1909 Thorn , the club played in the league system of the Baltic Lawn and Winter Sports Association (BRWV). The club has 43 members in the DFB yearbook 1910/11. From 1911 the seminar SV Thorn is mentioned in the contemporary press . In the 1911/12 season , the district championship of District VII Graudenz was played in the knockout system , Thorn met SV Marienwerder in the semifinals on February 18, 1912 and was able to move into the district final with a 4-3 victory. The final game against SK Graudenz , which took place on March 3, 1912, was declared invalid because of "irregularities which had occurred" and it was first decided to schedule a replay. This decision was reversed a few days later on the grounds that there was no more time for another game and the seminar SV Thorn was chosen as a participant in the Baltic football final. The game was later repeated, Graudenz won 4: 3. But this game was also canceled, Thorn won the second replay for the district championship on September 15, 1912 with 2-0. The Baltic football finals had already taken place beforehand, Thorn met the winner of the district V Allenstein / Osterode SV Allenstein in the quarter-finals . In this game the Thorner had to admit defeat 1: 3 and were eliminated. For the season 1912/13 , the district championship Graudenz was played in two groups (northern and southern district), the seminar SV Thorn won the southern district and met again in the final against SC Graudenz . This time Graudenz prevailed with 5: 2, Thorn thus missed participation in the Baltic football finals. In the DFB yearbook of 1912, unlike in the press, the club is listed as Thorn, Seminar-FC 09 with 53 members, and according to the yearbook there was also a seminar FC Eintracht Thorn .

In 1913 the BRWV's league system was restructured, and the district of Graudenz now played within District II of Danzig / West Prussia . Game results from the SV Thorn seminar have not been reported. After the end of the First World War , Thorn and most of the province of West Prussia had to be ceded to the Second Polish Republic due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty in 1920 ; the seminar SV Thorn was dissolved at the latest with this cession. From 1940 there was again a top-class German sports club from the city, SV Thorn .
