Semir Osmanagić (also known as Sam Osmanagich ; born June 1, 1960 in Zenica , Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian building contractor and author of pseudoscientific works. He works as an amateur archaeologist and as such claims to have discovered pyramids in Bosnia-Herzegovina .

Life

Osmanagić was born in Zenica, Bosnia, at that time part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . He spent his childhood and youth in Sarajevo . He worked his way up to managing director of the industrial company Met Company , which has also been active in the USA , Houston , since 1995 .

In April 2005 Osmanagić began on the 767-meter-high pyramid-shaped mountain Visočica in Central Bosnia with excavations . The amateur archaeologist then published a book in which he made the claim that Mount Visočica is home to a buried and overgrown pyramid inside, according to the supposed approving opinions of highly respected historians and archaeologists. Osmanagić added that it was one of a total of five ancient pyramids of enormous dimensions, including an extensive tunnel system. He named the strangely-shaped mountains Bosnian pyramids and set up the charitable foundation Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun to raise funds to help reinforce his theory. Osmanagić believes that once the pyramids are uncovered, they would be placed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. However, even after more than ten years since his theses were drawn up, there is no scientific evidence of this.

The researcher faced severe criticism several times. One of the greatest criticisms is probably the fact that some of the archaeologists mentioned by name by Osmanagić, who are said to have contributed to excavations and to reinforcing his theory, never wanted to have been to Visoko. In addition, he made himself unbelievable through his belief in divine energies inside the alleged pyramids as well as through his pseudoscientific views regarding the mythology of the Maya or the legend of Lemuria .

Osmanagić lives in Houston , Texas , where he works as a building contractor. He is married and has a son.
