Sempervivum atlanticum is a species of houseleek ( Sempervivum ) in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

description

Vegetative characteristics

Sempervivum atlanticum grows as a rosette plant with a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters (rarely up to 8 centimeters). Their short runners soon dry up and have somewhat spherical offshoots. The obovate-oblong, oblong spatulate or obscure lanceolate, finely downy-haired leaves are quite pale green and rarely have a slightly red tip. The leaf blade is 20 to 30 millimeters (rarely up to 50 millimeters) long and 9 to 10 millimeters (rarely up to 12 millimeters) wide. Its tip is blunt and has a short attached tip.

Generative characteristics

The densely glandular, downy-haired flower shoot reaches a length of up to 30 centimeters. It has elongated, lanceolate leaves 25 to 40 millimeters long, which are bright wine-red-purple in color during the flowering period. The inflorescence consists of cymes with usually forked, spreading wraps. The 12-fold flowers have a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. Their green sepals are fused together over a length of up to 1.5 millimeters. They are almost spherical, tapering to a point and about 6 millimeters long. The narrow, linear, pointed, white petals have a broad, red-purple central stripe and are about 15 millimeters long. The stamens are purple, the anthers are cloudy green. The awkward stylus is slightly curved, the almost circular, tiny glandular nectar scales are bent back.
