Sempervivum brevipilum is a species of houseleek ( Sempervivum ) in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae). The specific epithet brevipilum is derived from the Latin words brevis for 'short' and pilus for 'hair' and refers to the short, downy-haired leaves of the species.

Vegetative characteristics

Sempervivum brevipilum grows as a rosette plant with a diameter of up to about 3 centimeters and short runners . The egg-shaped, pointed, bluish green, evenly glandular, downy-haired leaves are bent back and spread out. Your leaf blade is 10 to 20 millimeters long and about 7.5 millimeters wide.

Generative characteristics

The nine- to eleven-fold flowers have a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters. Their egg-shaped sepals are short and unusually fleshy. The greenish yellow petals are 5 to 7 millimeters long. The stamens are purple, the nectar scales rounded and spread out.

Systematics and distribution

Sempervivum brevipilum is distributed very locally in Turkey in Central Asia Minor in cracks in limestone rocks at altitudes of 1700 to 2300 meters.

The first description by Clara Winsome Muirhead was published in 1969.
