from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transmitter Brovary was a transmitter for Central , long- and short-wave in the city of Brovary , 20 kilometers east of Kiev .

The transmitter system last consisted of the following systems:

  • a 257 meter high ARRT - antenna from 1972. About this antenna was until 31 December 2010, the first program of the Ukrainian broadcasting on the long wave frequency 207 kHz broadcast. The frequency covered 95% of the territory of Ukraine.
  • a 180 meter high guyed transmission mast for medium wave, over which the second program of the Ukrainian radio was broadcast on the frequency 549 kHz.

After the longwave was switched off, the two transmitters were swapped in May 2012: the former longwave transmission mast broadcast the second program on medium wave, and the new medium wave frequency 783 kHz was used for the first program. After only six months, operations on the transmission system were completely shut down and all transmission masts were torn down.

The transmission system also included an extensive complex of curtain antennas for shortwave, which were used by the state foreign radio of the Soviet Union and, after independence, by the Ukrainian radio broadcaster Radio Ukraine International . The BBC World Service was also broadcast on the medium wave frequency 594 kHz via these curtain antennas . The systems were shut down in 2011 and dismantled shortly afterwards.
