The Mullach an Ois transmitter is an Irish transmitter on the mountain of the same name in the Derrynasaggart Mountains in County Cork in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland .

history

Detailed view of 170 and 225 meter masts

The location of the public broadcasting company Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) with a height of 694 m above sea level. MSL was built in 1963 with a 170 meter high transmission mast and originally broadcast five television programs with a 625-line VHF service. The transmission area is the southwest of Ireland with the counties of Cork, Kerry and Limerick. Today the transmitter is owned by 2RN, a wholly owned subsidiary of RTÉ. In 2009, in preparation for the transmission of digital terrestrial television (DVB-T), a new mast system with a height of 225 meters was additionally built and the original transmission system was converted.

The analog TV transmissions from this broadcasting station ended on October 24, 2012 and the national DTT service is now broadcast from Mullach to Ois. The transmitter has a power of around 200 kW ERP. In addition to digital television, seven national FM radio services are also broadcast.
