Crucifyre is a Swedish death metal band from Stockholm that was formed in 2006.

history

The band was founded in winter 2006 and consisted of drummer Yasin "Yasse" Hillborg and guitarists Patrik Nilsson and Torbjörn "TG" Gräslund. After the first rehearsals, the group recorded a first demo under the name Thessalonian Death Cult . At the beginning of 2008 Erik “Tormentor” Sahlström joined the cast as singer. Then the demo Hellish Sacrifice was recorded. During the recordings, Tobias Sillman was involved as session guitarist. In 2009 the line-up stabilized with the addition of guitarist Urban Skytt and bassist Henrik “Doltz” Nilsson. After the group was heard on the sampler Resurrected in Festering , the band reached a contract with Pulverized Records . In January 2010 the band went to Stockholm's Cosmos Studios to record their debut album, which was released in autumn under the name Infernal Earthly Divine . In 2011 Hillborg made the film Så Jälva Metal , which deals with the history of Swedish hard rock . In 2014, the second album Black Magic Fire was released , on which the Swedish opera singer Natalie Herborg can be heard, among others .

style

According to Janne Stark in his book The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! the band plays old school death metal, which has been influenced by bands like Bathory , Slayer , Celtic Frost and Venom . However, the band has a better sound than their influences. According to Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard , the band plays music on their second album that builds on a foundation of Death Metal in the style of Venom and Aura Noir and has a strong influence from Heavy Metal . This is very different from the debut album, which old-school death metal has to offer. In an interview with Schilling, Yasin Hillborg stated that she was influenced by bands like Black Sabbath , Motörhead , Mercyful Fate , Slayer and Bathory. After Schilling stated that the vocals reminded him of Conrad Lant or a particularly dark version of Johan Edlund and the children's choir in One and One Is One of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall , Hillborg replied that the idea for the choir was indeed from Pink Floyd, but also from Bob Ezrin's preference for children's singing , and singer Sahlström is also a fan of Venom. In a previous issue, Schilling had reviewed Black Magic Fire . The album offers a mix of the black- and thrash metal - riffs of Aura Noir as well as "the spooky B-movie atmosphere of vampires and dirty rock and roll 'n' " in the style of Venom. The singing is very variable and moves between Conrad Lant and Johan Edlund. According to Jan Fleckhaus from Metal Hammer , the group on Infernal Earthly Divine plays classic Death Metal with a high Thrash Metal influence. The grooves are simple and the riffs are catchy. The album is suitable for fans of Venom, early Slayer, Morbid Angel and Entombed .

Inhonorus from stormbringer.at described Black Magic Fire as varied and as a mixture of necrophobic and creator .
