SEM 93 from Thales in a command and radio vehicle of the Bundeswehr

Transmitter / receiver, mobile (short: SEM ) is the name used by the Bundeswehr for radio equipment . For the individual designations, the number for the respective type is added to this abbreviation (e.g. SEM 52).

Manufacturer is Standard Elektrik Lorenz (SEL), hence SEL SEM 90 etc.
The SEM 93 comes from the Thales Group , into which SEL was incorporated (SEL, then Alcatel , then Alcatel SEL, now Thales).

Known types:

  • SEM 25 : Vehicle radio, VHF (Very High Frequency / Ultra Short Wave ) 26  Megahertz (MHz) –69.95 MHz, with 1  watt (W) and 15 W transmitter output power
  • SEM 35 : Backpack radio, VHF 26 MHz – 69.95 MHz, with 0.15 W and 1 W transmitter output power
  • SEM 52 A : Handheld radio, VHF 47 MHz – 56.975 MHz, with 0.2 W transmitter output power, max. 6 channels via crystals
  • SEM 52 S : Handheld radio, VHF 46 MHz – 57.975 MHz, with 1 W transmitter output power, max. 6 channels can be set internally
  • SEM 52 SL : Handheld radio, VHF 46 MHz – 66 MHz, with 1.5 W transmitter output power, max. 12 channels programmable
  • SEM 70 : Backpack radio, VHF, 4 W (VHF-A)
  • SEM 80 : VHF vehicle radio, low power 0.4 W, high power 4 W, consisting of:
    • Basic unit (A-VHF)
    • Base plate GP-80
    • Plug frame ST-80
    • Frequency memory FSP-70
  • SEM 90 : VHF 4 W / 40 W vehicle radio (VHF-A). The SEM 90 is a SEM 80 basic device with an additional transmission power amplifier LV-90.
  • SEM 93 : Vehicle radio COMSEC (integrated encryption) and HOPPING ( frequency hopping method )

The abbreviation "SL" (only for SEM 52) describes the attributes "Synthesizer" (no more crystals) and "Liquid-Crystal-Display" (liquid crystal display).

For the vehicle-supported devices there are also the corresponding floor antennas, these are the ASB (antenna stand operation) for the SEM 25 and the STA-80 (floor antenna) for the SEM 80/90/93.
