The transmitter / receiver, mobile SEM 52 SL is a handheld radio which is used by the German Armed Forces for combat telecommunications in a sub-unit and comparable applications. It was introduced in 1995 and replaced the SEM 52 S introduced in 1984 .

The device is suitable for radio and data transmission. As with the previous model, an external microphone can be connected for radio communication. The microphone sensitivity can be increased by 12 dB using the whisper device. The device also has a squelch and a backlit LC display .

The power is supplied by AA - batteries (AA) or a Nickel - Cadmium - or lithium - battery block .

The range of accessories includes various antennas, data transmission kit, vehicle mount, various batteries, etc.
